Waiting til next year

So, the Mets lost tonight to St. Louis. A very large disappointment to my husband, but that's baseball.

I realized tonight that many of the craft blogs I enjoy originate in Australia. Hmmm. Wonder why? Second largest group are in the Pacific Northwest. Hmmm, again.

Wherever they are located, it is amazing what the internet has done to bring the creative community together.

Tuesday lunch

I went to lunch today with my former co-workers - it was fun - they are all young and full of energy - it feels good to be around them. One is pregnant with her first and I couldn't be happier for her - she will be a great mother. And she is one of the most creative people I know - if she had a blog or website it would be number one on everyone's list.
I walked around Little Tokyo a bit while I was in the neighborhood. It is almost not the same place it was just a year ago - lots of new condos and lofts, stores, etc. Becoming one of the downtown places to live. I really like the little mom and pop stores - I found some wooden puzzles that I used for birthday gifts and they were entirely in Japanese with one line of english describing them as "gymnastics of the head." How good a description is that.

Making things

I started a felted purse this weekend - that makes two projects underway and I have a third that I want to start in the next day or two. That right there explains my biggest issue - I can't seem to finish one thing before I get an idea and start something else.

While I dither, my husband has projects that he starts and finishes. I guess it is a good thing that one of us is a focused person.

Right now he is watching the National League playoffs - he is an original Met fan and is praying and hoping for a successful end to the year. We hope.

creation

So, as I look at all the extremely creative and talented work found in my favorite blogs, the question is what do I want to try. My biggest problem is that I have yet to find a focus - for now, I want to try almost everything - sewing clothes is probably not going to be something I do - my mother despaired of ever getting me to sew correctly - after ripping it apart for the third time, I usually gave up. Knitting maybe, but I have real trouble with patterns - guess I need to be taught.
But I do have fun making jewelry, crocheting without a pattern, and other miscellany. I will try to add a photo or two here of some of the things I've tried.
Cooking is another process that I really enjoy. I have the beginnings of a cookbook put together - recipes from my mother and grandmothers - hardly part of the "new" cuisine, but the food I grew up with. Actually, the cooks in my family were very good - but the heights for dinner parties are not what I remember - so the book, when I finish will be mostly comfort food. I had hoped at one time to finish it before my mother died, but that did not happen. So it will be done when it is done. I think she'll appreciate it anyway.

Starting out

Well, I found out one thing - save it before you leave the page. I hope this is not a prediction of the future. Anyway, this is the first post and I hope to have fun with this and share my world with anyone who cares to check it out.
